[ On June 8th, before national news cameras, the President of Russia announces his resignation, and the appointment of ’President Lawson’ in his place. A thin man with his dark hair slicked back, wearing a black suit while carrying a silver ornamental cane, accepts the appointment with a wide, snakelike grin. He approaches the podium, addressing a crowd gathered before the steps of the Kremlin with raised hands in greeting. ]
It is with great pleasure that I bring forth to you a new era, one that will restore glory to this great country. Too long have you been forced to watch as other nations pressed onward, forgetting the power that was once commanded right here. I will restore that power, and bring you greater bounty than you had ever dreamed.
[ His hands come to rest down on the podium before him as he leans in (diplomacy 32). ]
I understand that there will be many opposed to the means by which your government has changed hands, and to those I say … [ A twisted, tiny smile lights on his lips. ] Too bad.
Submit to my rule, or become an enemy of it.
[ The soldiers lining the stage, and those controlling the crowd, load their weapons as he declares his martial law in effect. Sir Romanoff is caught on some of the news cameras, up on the stage with the rest of the political animals. A new, great, gaudy green flag rolls down off the front of the Kremlin, a gold and black sigil emblazoned upon it. ]
[ Throughout the remainder of the day, news stations around the globe report on the government overthrow, the undercutting of the entire election system, and the state of martial law that has begun to roar to life in Russia in the wake of this announcement.
Strangely, many of the citizens don't seem altogether uncomfortable with the notion—the attitudes he professes are welcome in a time where Russia is otherwise in a state of economic and industrial depression. President Lawson's promises are met with hope from the people, many of whom who claim that Russia could use a "stronger government" when interacting on the world stage. ]
