[And then Vi's texts come in about Kat and Stiles just... slumps back in his seat. He can't word. He can barely breathe.]

Stiles...? What's wrong? [ her expression falls with concern as she fixes her scarf back into place. ]

[He blinks at the sound of her voice, thumbs moving quickly to fire off a response back to Vi's initial dropped bomb.]

One of the knights that went with them. She didn't come back. She was- [He swallows and tries again.] She was showing me some stuff. Magic.

[ see abigail's dubious empathy at work. she leans forward to put her hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently. ] I'm sorry.

[ she reads quickly, face impassive, handing it back to stiles when she's finished. ] I'm sorry. [ because it was more obvious from the text that kat was... is important to stiles. and she has an inkling what vi wouldn't say, but abigail is female. she's female who's spent the better part of the last six months of her life being educated in serial killers. her mind immediately jumps to the worst. especially if kat is the last straw.

she needs to tell will. but... she doesn't want to leave stiles. ] Are you okay?

Yeah, I'm- [Well that's a big load of crap.] Not really, but I'm... [He lets out a long breath.] I don't know. I need to get out of here. I told Lydia I would fill her in once I knew more.

[He finally looks at her and even with the scarf now righted, it registers to him what he saw just as he received this terrible news. It doesn't seem right to try to bring that back up now, though. But it's definitely something he wants to talk about later.]

Go. [ she slides off the desk and motions for him to vacate the chair. she wanted to go to will, but it'll be just as easy to ask him to come to her. ] I'll cover the rest of your shift.

[ she watches stiles leave and then immediately texts will because now she is on desk duty... so he needs to come to her. which is roughly what her text says. ]

[ she doesn't mince words or lead up to it, just lays down the simplest facts for will. if he needs more she can supply the answers, but she isn't trying to be cryptic. that demands a prevaricating nature she doesn't use with will. ]

What happened on Andres? [he means that in the sense that he feels like there must have been a colossal fuck-up to be suddenly going to war??? but maybe not. because ... andres. we just don't know.]

I don't know. On top of Sir Bancroft still being there, they had to leave another knight behind. It seemed like with the Prime Minister. [ it wasn't hard to extrapolate up from vi's texts and the "him" referenced in "no one is going to let him lay a finger on kat." (wis 18) she raises her eyebrows slightly because will studied serial killers too. stiles wouldn't have made the leap immediately because he was a teenage boy -- abigail was a girl, will was a profiler, the possible assault undertones wouldn't be lost on him. ]

[will doesn't say anything once the announcement's over, just ... looks deeply contemplative.]
